Recently, I attended New York Toy Fair for the first time because I'm a shopping editor, and let me tell you, the new toy releases this year will be on every kid’s birthday and holiday wish list. Toy Fair is a four-day conference where the biggest names in toys and children’s entertainment come together to show off their hottest products. I saw the best of the best in the industry, from classic best-sellers to new releases that every kid will be asking for. And since the conference is strictly invite-only and not open to the public, I went to get the scoop firsthand on the latest toy releases.

Since we’ve seen “grandma hobbies” making a major comeback with Gen Z, there were plenty of cozy crafts at Toy Fair looking to hop on that trend, like the new Squishmallows Crochet Kits or the RoseArt Jewel Succulents Kit. And with A Minecraft Movie releasing next month, I predict this newly released transforming Minecraft sword will be a big hit with kids this year. After spending days looking at new toys, these are the 11 new toys that caught my eye. And the best part? They’re all available right now so you can be ahead of the trend.

The RoseArt Crystal Gems is a truly stunning crafting kit that combines art and building toys for a really light-catching display. Kids can create a miniature garden, including blooming cacti and floral-bedecked succulents. With only 175 pieces, it’s simple enough for kids as young as 8 to put together on their own. Afterward, they have a sparkling piece of decor to personalize their room.

At Toy Fair there were a ton of sensory toys everywhere. While slime is certainly here to stay, so is the constant clean-up. As a mess-free alternative, I loved the Tangle Furry Fidget Friends because they double as a plushie and comfort item. These adorable furry friends are part of a newly released toy line and include lovable pets like a monkey, a mini highland cow, a puppy, and a black bear. Given its small size, these friends are perfect for small hands or travel.

The Snap Circuits Spy Kit is a STEAM toy and science kit combo and really caught my attention for a few reasons. Like all the Snap Circuits kits, this introductory circuitry kit is virtually shock proof. I tested it in water at Toy Fair and didn’t even feel a tickle. This incredibly versatile kit includes over 25 separate activities to make essential spy gear like trip wires, voice changers, and motion sensors. It’s a fun way to inspire a love of engineering concepts.

This family-friendly board game is as cute as they come. Players each draw a card with an animal on it and debate as a group just how cute each animal is. Animals include fan favorites like the capybara and the axolotl (two animals I saw at every plushy toy stand!) and less conventional picks like the armadillo and even some insects. The Feelin’ Cute game is a great option for screen-free family fun since the games last only about 15 minutes and segues into lessons about biology and the animal kingdom.

The Minecraft mania continues with this Minecraft Transforming Diamond Sword & Pick Axe that’s great for pretend play and more. The sword easily transforms into a pick-axe with the push of a button, so little adventurers can transition from battling zombies to digging for diamonds. For added safety, the outer layer of the toy is made with soft foam. It could also make a good addition to future Halloween costumes or A Minecraft Movie premier outfit.
